In Johanna Sorrentino’s article The Homework Debate (http://www.education.com/magazine/article/The_Homework_Debate/) it talks about if schools should really be giving out homework.
In the article it references a guy named Alfie Kohn who has wrote a book called The Homework Myth.
He points out that no study has ever found a correlation between homework and academic achievement in elementary school, and he also says that there is little reason to believe that homework is necessary in high school.
He says that it may even diminish interest in learning.
He talks about how homework can be stressful for students and be a strain on families.
To reduce this stress and strain there’s actually a growing number of schools starting to ban homework.
An academic administrator named Mary Jane Cera has banned homework and says that doing this kids have begun to like to learn more and bring home their school work or stuff home out of enjoyment instead of being told they have to.
I wholeheartedly agree with this article.
When children come home from school, that should be unwind, relax and family time.
Many parents are working most of the day, and the short time, that they get to spend with their children in the evenings, are used up, by doing homework! How is that beneficial for children to bond with their parents?
